I started the business in 2015 after returning home from a few years of living and travelling abroad. Day-to-day operations are mostly run by me, with some help from family and friends during the busier summer months. I’ve been around rivers and canoes for most of my life—my dad first introduced me to canoeing when I was about nine or ten, right here on the Barrow. Since launching Paddle Your Own Canoe, the business has grown steadily year after year. We now welcome many large groups who return annually for their much-anticipated trip, and I love nothing more than meeting new people or catching up with familiar faces as they come back to the river.
The River Barrow is one of Ireland’s best-kept secrets. Winding through lush countryside, charming villages, and past ancient ruins, it’s a trail rich with history, wildlife, and wonder.
